Jones Valley Teaching Farm: a school-based food and nutrition education program

September is childhood obesity month and it is important to introduce healthy foods to our kids, encouraging a more healthy lifestyle early on. The Jones Valley Teaching Farm does exactly this through their Good School Foods program. Screen Shot 2014-09-22 at 3.27.36 PM

In 2012, building on the framework of the urban farm, Jones Valley Teaching Farm brought together a team of educators, designers and farmers to create Good School Food — a school-based food and nutrition education program for Birmingham City Schools. Good School Food is a program that connects standards-based education to real-world food issues, providing their partner schools with innovative, hands-on programs that improve student learning and increase access to healthy food.
