Lakeshore Foundation is a non-profit 501c3 organization that promotes independence for persons with physically disabling conditions and provides opportunities to pursue active, healthy lifestyles.
Lakeshore offers one-on-one health consultations and activity planning for new members, as well as group health and wellness/ fitness classes. Lakeshore doesn’t offer classes specifically for diabetes, but does promote healthy eating and include information about diabetes in general wellness classes or lunch & learns. The classes are not scheduled on a specific day every week but on a more inconsistent, or need-based schedule.
Lakeshore offers the UAB EatRight program on site, as well as hosts Camp Sugar Falls, which educates kids about diabetes and health.
*To become a member of Lakeshore Foundation you must have a physical disability or chronic health condition (such as spinal cord injury, spina bifida, cerebral palsy, stroke, limb loss, diabetes, arthritis, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson's disease and visual impairment), or be a family member of someone with a physical disability or chronic health condition.
